MAMMA MIA! …A Greek Island…a girl searching for her father…three potential candidates…a dazzling trio of women belting out fabulous tunes…flares, frills, fluro, wedge heeled boots…and the catchiest collection of hit after hit by a certain Swedish pop band of the 70s and 80s. We are looking for an energetic, dynamic and diverse cast of 32 performers who can not only meet the vocal and dance demands of the show but will also blow the roof off the National Theatre with their infectious energy and enthusiasm. DONNA SHERIDAN – Lead Role
Age Range: appearance of 40 – 50
Description: The owner of the taverna on the Greek island of Kalokairi. Sophie’s mother, she is the former lead singer of Donna and the Dynamos. Honest, straightforward and hard-working, she is the most naturalistic and vulnerable of the characters. Delivers some of the biggest solos in the show.
Songs: Mamma Mia, Chiquitita, Dancing Queen, Super Trouper, Money Money Money, One of Us, SOS, Our Last Summer, The Winner Takes it All, Slipping Through My Fingers, I Do I Do I Do.

SOPHIE SHERIDAN – Lead Role
Age Range: appearance of early 20’s
Description: Donna’s headstrong daughter, Sophie is determined to have what her mother never had: a traditional family and a father to walk her down the aisle. Young, bright and energetic, she has lived all her life on the island and is ready to leave.
Songs: I Have a Dream, Honey Honey, Thank You for the Music, The Name of the Game, Lay All Your Love on Me, Under Attack, Slipping Through My Fingers.

TANYA – Lead Role
Age Range: appearance of 40 – 50
Description: One of Donna’s oldest and best friends. A former member of the Dynamos. Has married several millionaires and discovered a lot more about plastic surgery than love. Wild, fun-loving and a big character, she flirts mercilessly with young men, happy to play, but not to stick around.
Songs: Money Money Money, Chiquitita, Dancing Queen, Super Trouper, Does Your Mother Know.

ROSIE – Lead Role
Age Range: appearance of 40 – 50
Description: One of Donna’s oldest and best friends. A former member of the Dynamos. Unmarried, free-spirited and a renowned author of cookbooks. A character who has developed a confident, funny and self-deprecating exterior which masks her inner vulnerability. Kooky and fun, good comic actress, bit of a clown. Dances like nobody’s watching.

SAM – Lead Role
Age Range: appearance of 40’s – 50’s
Description: One of Sophie’s potential fathers and a wealthy architect. Sam has regretted leaving Donna all his life and now finds himself divorced and back in her presence. He is straight-laced, confident and composed. At times he is perhaps a little over-bearing, but he is determined not to mess up the second chance he has been given… a very true and honest character within the chaos.

BILL – Lead Role
Age Range: appearance of 40’s – 50’s
Description: Another of Sophie’s potential fathers, a well-known travel writer, Bill has visited the far reaches of the earth, but never found what he’s really looking for. A real character, often English or Australian, Bill has generally avoided the complexities of a relationship and now wonders if it’s too late. Lots of comedy and a golden heart within.

Description: A waiter, boatman and handyman at the taverna. Other half of double-act with Pepper. Fairly non- specific. Opportunity for a good young character actor to create something interesting.

No solo singing
ENSEMBLE – (10 Male & 10 Female)

Age Range: 18 +
The ensemble of Mamma Mia forms the backbone of the show. We are looking for a large ensemble to fill out this HUGE ensemble show. Looking for dynamic, diverse and interesting types/personalities. All ages, body types and ethnicities welcome!!!

Ensemble members must be confident harmony singers and excellent dancers in a variety of styles. We want an ensemble that works as a close unit to learn a number of complex, high energy and lengthy dance routines. Acrobatics and partnering skills a plus!! The ensemble will perform in approx 11 ensemble numbers and will lend vocal support when not onstage in dance sequences. All set changes throughout the show will be choreographed with dancers moving through scenery. Those auditioning for the ensemble should be prepared to blow the audience away with their energy and enthusiasm.

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS
• Please go to www.cloc.org.au to complete an online audition form (after June 16), and attach a head shot (mandatory) and a performance CV (optional). You will then be contacted by our audition secretary to book a time, provide more information to you and answer any queries you may have.
• Please wear fitted clothes for the audition and arrive early enough to talk through your song with the audition pianist and look over script readings.
• Bring sheet music in the key in which you wish to sing (no taped music or requests to transpose). Please make sure the music pages are bound or stuck together –NO LOOSE PAGES PLEASE.
• Prepare one song in the style of the show, but not from the show. Remember that as time is limited, you may not complete the song, so choose an appropriate starting point.
• You do not need to prepare any dialogue – you may be asked to read an extract of dialogue from the show. These extracts will be available for you to look at before you go into the audition.
• Dance: Be available for the Dance Audition on Monday evening, July 1. You will be notified by SMS on the evening of Sunday June 30 if you are required to attend the Dance audition and at what time. On the Monday night, please wear fitted dance clothes, bring jazz shoes and be warmed up ready to go.
• Be available for Call Backs on Wednesday July 3 (evening). You will be advised on Monday night (after the Dance auditions) if you are required for Call Backs and at what time. You will be emailed music/dialogue to learn and will be expected to present at performance standard at the Call Backs. Photos and measurement for costumes will also be taken at the Call Backs.
• Final casting will take place on Wednesday night after the Call Backs, and all auditionees who have attended the Call Backs will be rung, whether successful or not. Everyone who auditions will receive either a phone call or an email sometime on Thursday July 4. Please note that casting is not absolutely final until after the Call Backs.
• Minimum age for auditionees: 18 plus at the time of auditions.
• Rehearsals are on Sunday afternoon (1pm-5pm), Monday and Wednesday evenings (7.30pm10.30pm).
