SYNOPSIS
Based on the smash hit 1991 Disney movie and dating back to a late 18th-century classic French fairy tale, Beauty and the Beast tells the story of Belle, a beautiful and intelligent young woman who feels out of place in her provincial French village. When her father is imprisoned in a mysterious castle, Belle’s attempt to rescue him leads to her capture by the Beast, a grisly and fearsome monster, who was long ago trapped in his gruesome form by an enchantress. The only way for the Beast to become human once again is if he learns to love and be loved in return. There is a time limit, too: once a magical rose loses all of its petals, all hope will be lost and he will stay a Beast forever. The Beast’s enchanted household–populated by such beloved characters as Mrs. Potts, Lumiere, Cogsworth, and Chip–watch anxiously as Belle and the Beast grow to understand and befriend one another. Their feelings grow ever deeper as the clock ticks and petals continue to fall off the enchanted rose–will they confess their love for one another before it is too late?

Audition Requirements
Vocal:
Auditions will be 10 minutes in length. Please prepare 2 contrasting songs in the style of the show, you may also choose one song from the show for the character you’re auditioning for. Kindly contact Ben Heels at [email protected]  to discuss the music if singing a song from the show.
Using the audition accompanist is preferred, however backing tracks will be permitted. Please bring sheet music in a folder and/or backing track in the correct key as no transposing will be permitted.

Acting:
If you’re auditioning for a principal role be prepared to do some reading in the audition – these will be available at the information session. Please don’t dress up as characters the panel ultimately want to see your personality shine! Chookas!

Dance audition:
Please wear clothes that you can dance in (i.e. activewear, dancewear, tracksuit pants).
Ladies: character shoes preferred, but jazz shoes/runners/anything else is fine if you don’t have any.
Men: runners or dance shoes.
You will learn a short routine as a group and will not be expected to perform it solo.  The focus will be on your ability to learn choreography and stay in time with the music. There is not an expectation that every cast member will be a dancer, however ‘movement’ and keeping in time will be important.
If you are interested in being a featured dancer and potentially have more intricate parts in the show, you will learn a second routine. You may be tapped on the shoulder to take part in this portion of the audition, but everyone is welcome to learn the routine.
While attendance at the group audition is preferred, if you cannot make the dance audition times, a video of the routine will be available for you to learn and you can perform this in your singing/acting audition. I can help you clarify any steps in the audition before you perform it. I am here to help!

Callbacks:
Certain roles may be invited for a callback on Monday 15th times will be advised. If you do not receive a callback please don’t stress, it does not mean you didn’t get a role if you don’t receive a callback.
