DIAMONDS ARE FOR TREVOR
A fabulously glamorous gala evening and sparkling tribute to Dame Shirley Bassey with three-time Helpmann Award nominee and Trevor Ashley and Camerata – Queensland’s Chamber Orchestra.
Trevor – wearing dazzling costumes by Oscar-winning designer Tim Chappel (The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert) will channel the Welsh-born Dame as only he can! Performing dozens of Shirley’s classic hits accompanied by the sheer exuberance of a 24-piece orchestra. Feel free to wear your best black-tie, outrageous outfit or somewhere in between, this will most certainly not be a low-key evening.
With bucket loads of charisma, his trademark humour and unrivalled set of lungs, Trevor tells the Shirley Bassey rags-to-riches story like it’s never, never, never been told before. Along with the sequins, jewels, big gowns and bigger hair, expect to hear ‘Big Spender’, ‘Goldfinger’, ‘Never, Never, Never’, ‘This is My Life’, ‘History Repeating’ and ‘Diamonds are Forever’ – plus a few songs the Dame has never got around to singing!
Take a tour of Shirley’s life, complete with feathers, flash, and frequent diva tantrums. Hilarious, brilliant and often moving, when Trevor Ashley takes on the one and only Dame Shirley Bassey, it will prove once and for all that diamonds really are for Trevor.
Trevor Ashley is one of Australia’s most sought-after and successful performers. He has built a career as an actor, writer, director and international queen of cabaret and is widely considered ‘Mardi Gras royalty.’
As well as major musicals (including Les Miserables, Hairspray and Priscilla), Ashley has played every major cabaret stage and festival across the country with his one-man shows, selling out numerous Sydney Opera House shows, garnering standing ovations and unanimous rave reviews.
