Ground-breaking New Australian Musical by Award Winning Writing Duo Announces Cast
A stellar cast of Australian musical theatre’s brightest stars has been assembled for the World Premiere of CROSSXROADS, a ground-breaking new Australian musical by Anthony Costanzo (Life’s a Circus – Green Room Award Nominated 2009) and AFI Award Winner Peter Fitzpatrick (Flowerchildren: the Mamas and Papas Story – Green Room Award 2011).
Alinta Chidzey stars as Amy, the girl who has to learn to follow her heart. Chidzey has become a regular on The Production Company stage, playing Magnolia in Show Boat, Kathy Selden in Singin’ In the Rain and Svetlana in Chess. For Chess, Chidzey was honoured with a Green Room Award for Best Female Artist in a Supporting Role. Prior to this, Chidzey played sassy Anita in West Side Story, for which she received nominations for a Helpmann Award, Green Room Award, Sydney Theatre Award, two GLUGS Award nominations and won the Australian Dance Award for Most Outstanding Performance.
The incredibly talented (and equally handsome) Stephen Mahy will play the role of Amy’s occasional and potential partner, Rick. Mahy was most recently seen playing the role of Brad Majors in The Rocky Horror Show by GFO. Other unforgettable roles include Bob Gaudio in the original Australian production of Jersey Boys and Kenickie in the Australian tour of Grease.
The Voice Australia star Fem Belling has the role of the wildly unpredictable Hannah. Aside from winning five FNB Vita Theatre Awards and a Best Show Olivier Ensemble Award, Fem has previously been seen in The Boy From Oz (Liza Minnelli), Sexercise the Musical (Rhonda), Joseph and His Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (Narrator), Summer Holiday (Alma), and the international tour of Cats as Jennyanydots.
Playing alongside Belling’s Hannah is Joe Kosky as the hilarious Barrel. Kosky’s professional Music Theatre debut was as Joe Long in Jersey Boys. He also played Sergeant Kennedy in NED – A New Australian Musical. Joe is also one half of internationally acclaimed electronic duo, GodWolf, achieving iTunes charting and ARIA charting singles.
CROSSXROADS also features an exceptional ensemble made up of Bianca Baykara (In The Heights, West Side Story, The King & I), Maddie Featherby (The Mapmaker’s Opera, Godspell, La Traviata). Ryan Gonzalez (Violet, Strictly Ballroom, King Kong) and Ed Grey (Wicked, Spring Awakening, Legally Blonde).
The brilliant Tyran Parke (Assassins, The Goodbye Girl, From Broadway to La Scalla) will direct this cast with choreography by the outstanding Michael Ralph (Georgy Girl, West Side Story, NED – A New Australian Musical) and musical direction by David Wisken.
The production will also feature lighting and set design by Rob Sowinski and Bryn Cullen and it is being production managed by Ryan Lewis (RL Productions) with stage management by Hayley Fox.
CROSSXROADS follows the relationship of Amy and Rick over ten years – from their graduation at the start of a new millennium to a day in Paris that might be the best or the worst day of their lives. This story of finding love and losing it is uniquely theirs, but it’s also one that belongs to all of us; and it takes us into a world of intimacy as modern as tomorrow. CROSSXROADS explores those sliding-door moments in which each journey along that road could have taken a very different turn, providing an answer to those all too common ‘what if’ moments.
This a show that will change your sense of what the contemporary musical can do.
CROSSXROADS is proudly supported by the City of Stonnington, in association with Magnormos, Stella Entertainment and RL Productions.
