The City of Stonnington’s iconic Chapel Off Chapel has been nominated for the first (and hopefully last) Time In Awards for their Check In With Chapel series.

In a normal year, up to 50 000 people visit the venue for over 100 different events. When the doors closed because of COVID-19 restrictions in March, the Chapel Off Chapel team responded by introducing a new uplifting weekly Instagram Live series ‘Check In With Chapel’.

Each week different guests chat about their lives in isolation, careers and a special online performance. To date, guests have included Australian musicians Reece Mastin, Kyle Lionhart, Thando, Fem Belling, Jess & Matt. Musical theatre stars Christie Whelan Browne, Michael Dalton and Josh Robson have also joined, topped off with a live cross to Scotland to chat with comedy royalty Craig Hill.

City of Stonnington Mayor, Cr Steve Stefanopoulos, said this is much deserved recognition for the Chapel Off Chapel team and artists featured.

“I’m thrilled that Check In With Chapel has been nominated for a Time In Award.

“Check In With Chapel has been a great way for artists and people to stay connected with a venue that means so much to the Melbourne music scene and wider community.

“The series has received fantastic engagement with our artists and community. While the Chapel is physically closed, we want to stay connected to our community and Check In With Chapel has made that possible by providing some much needed entertainment and positivity.

“It’s also great that Prahran Market has been nominated for their initiative to ensure older people had priority access to the market in March when shopping was proving a stressful and challenging situation for many people,” said Cr Stefanopoulos.

Vote for Chapel Off Chapel and Prahran Market on the Time Out website, voting closes Sunday May 31.
