Understudy Productions have announced the full cast for the upcoming production of SWEET CHARITY, opening at Brisbane Powerhouse on 24 January for a limited season.
They join the previously announced Naomi Price in the title role of Charity Hope Valentine, as well as musical theatre performers Andy Cook (Priscilla Queen of the Desert) in the role of film star Vittorio Vidal, and Lizzie Moore (The Last Five Years) and Hayley Winch (A Chorus Line) as Charity’s chums Nickie and Helene.
Joining the cast as Charity’s love interest Oscar Lindquist is leading Brisbane actor Stephen Hirst, and in the dual roles of Daddy Brubeck and Herman is Elliot Baker, a recent graduate of Queensland Conservatorium’s Musical Theatre course.
They are joined by a cast that features Steven Bishop, Carlo Boumouglbay, Emily Corkeron, Shay Debney, Luke Hodgson, Irena Lysiuk, Rebecca Rolle, Sophie Stephens and Kate Yaxley.
“Our aim was to assemble a cast of Queensland’s very best musical theatre performers” says Producer Alexander Woodward. “From graduates of the Conservatorium to artists returning to Brisbane from interstate, this is a company of extraordinary Brisbane-born and based talent.”
SWEET CHARITY will be helmed by the directorial dual team of Maureen Bowra and Kris Stewart, who are excited to bring a contemporary energy and perspective to this musical theatre classic.
Featuring irresistible hits like ‘Big Spender’ and ‘The Rhythm of Life’, SWEET CHARITY follows the misadventures of “dance hall hostess” Charity Hope Valentine, who decides to seek ‘Something Better Than This’ in an attempt rebuild her broken heart after continuous misfortune in her work and love life.
