Jekyll and Hyde

Anthony Warlow and Jemma Rix will star in the first Australian professional production of Jekyll & Hyde in Melbourne on Friday 25th October and in Sydney on Saturday 2nd November.

“I am thrilled to have been invited to recreate the music and lyrics of Frank Wildhorn and Leslie Bricusse for this 25th anniversary celebration of Jekyll & Hyde. After re-imagining these iconic characters for the concept recording, I look forward to bringing Frank’s ‘Gothic Musical’ to the Australian stage in these concert performances”. Anthony Warlow.

Based on the “The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde” by Robert Louis Stevenson, Jekyll & Hyde is a tale of tantalising suspense about the duplicity of human nature: restraint and transgression, brutality and civility–a singularly compelling story of Victorian dread.

Anthony Warlow performing this magnificent musical thriller live on stage has been highly anticipated throughout the world for 25 years. At last the popular, haunting and powerful music, especially ‘This is the Moment’ that Anthony is so well-known for, will come alive in Melbourne with Australia’s leading orchestra, the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and in Sydney with the Sydney International Orchestra. The stunning, resplendent ‘Victorian Gothic’ costumes will truly lend to an unforgettable evening for audiences!” Paul Fanning, Executive Producer.

Jekyll & Hyde features a thrilling score of pop rock hits from multi Grammy and Tony nominated Frank Wildhorn with the Book and Lyrics by double Oscar and Grammy winning Leslie Bricusse.“I am absolutely thrilled that one of my favourite musical artists in the world, Anthony Warlow, is going to celebrate the 25th year of his amazing performance on the Jekyll & Hyde “Complete Works” double CD, with a series of theatrical concerts.Anthony has so many beautiful gifts as a musician and actor, and all were on display on those recordings. Anthony’s performance on those recordings introduced a whole generation of fans around the world to Jekyll & Hyde!” Frank Wildhorn(Composer).

Electric Dreams
Nov 20 @ 8:00 pm – Nov 24 @ 10:45 pm
Electric Dreams

Music Theatre Melbourne is excited and proud to announce the first full showing of a new stage production, ELECTRIC DREAMS The Musical, at the Gasworks Theatre, Albert Park, from November 20 to 24;

Written by DREW LANE the story takes you back to the wild innocence of 1984, combining a love triangle (boy-girl-computer) with a brilliantly catchy score that features 22 original songs.

It’s 1984.  The year of ‘Gremlins’ and ‘Ghostbusters’, string vests and shoulder pads. The year George Orwell chose as the title for his apocalyptic novel about Big Brother.  The year that Rusty Lemorande created his iconic cult movie called ‘Electric Dreams’, with a title song that made everybody sing along …

The stellar cast is headed by TOM GREEN as Miles (Miss Saigon; Gladys Moncrieff Award; The Project) who finds a brave new world of love and technology, and MADELEINE FEATHERBY (Paris: A Rock Odyssey; Follies; LaTraviata), as Madeleine, girl next door and cellist extraordinaire.  It also features STEPHEN MAHY (Miss Saigon; Jersey Boys; Mamma Mia; Crossroads!) as Miles’ Casanovan best pal, and ANGELA SCUNDI (Rocky Horror Show; Thoroughly Modern Millie; Tick Tick Boom), as Madeleine’s, the thoroughly modern Millie.  OWEN JAMES plays Edgar, the computer with human aspirations. SOPHIE LOUGHRAN, ZAK BROWN, ANTHONY SCUNDI, COURTNEY SMYTH and AIDAN NIARROS complete an ensemble that every new musical would love to have.

The (Other) Great American Songbook
Nov 21 @ 7:30 pm – 10:00 pm
The (Other) Great American Songbook

Robyn Archer AO FAHA completes her trilogy of performances at City Recital Hall this November.

Following the success of Que Reste T’il and Dancing on the Volcano, comes The (Other) Great American Songbook, which offers a different portrait of America over time through song, covering everything from the Civil War and The Great Depression to many of its citizens’ favourite vices. Accompanied by longtime colleagues Michael Morley (piano) and George Butrumlis (accordion), Robyn (vocals and guitar) delights with an epic range of music by Stephen Foster, Rodgers and Hart, Bob Dylan, Pink and the odd Broadway hit.

Robyn Archer says of the show “I’ve been aware for so many years of so many different versions of The Great American Songbook: wonderful songs, but they all come from the world of entertainment and rarely reflect the complexity of American life.
“I decided to create a program of songs from the other side” Robyn continues “songs that reflected decades of strong dissident voices, and on the lighter side the songs about human vices, reflecting a more authentic span of the American character. Michael, George and I have so much fun performing this program and it shows you can tackle some of the darker sides of life with just as much verve and fun and laughter as those that try to pretend that life is always a bed of roses and romance”

Robyn shows no sign of slowing down, and continues to deliver her punchy, thoughtful and most of all, her musically outstanding vocal range to audiences all over the country.
“Robyn Archer is a colossus on the Australian stage…Her choice of songs reflects not only a deep knowledge and understanding of her subject matter but also a desire to impose, subtly, some of her political views about the world.” – RAW on Adelaide Cabaret Festival

Babes and Beer

Following a sold-out season at The Meat Market last year, The City of Brimbank co-present Babes and Beer for one night only at The Bowery Theatre on Friday November 29.

Written and Directed by the theatre’s Artist in Residency, Serah Nathan, this female-led comedy based on a true story follows three friends holidaying in the remote Daintree Rainforest. Without phone signal and surrounded by both dangerous animals and peculiar tourists, the girls experience one very strange night.

Babes and Beer is a dark comedy that taps into the current zeitgeist of incels, social anxiety and phone addiction, and questions whether women have true agency over their own happiness.

Serah proudly grew up in Taylors Lakes and looks forward to bringing this accessible, unpretentious play home, to an audience she knows and loves.

Their headmaster is determined to see them break records and enlists a new teacher to coach the boys into intellectual shape. Seduced though they are by his promises, the boys are concerned that there is more to the pursuit of learning than exams and grades.
