SYNOPSIS

In a farmhouse at the edge of Salisbury Plain a family is falling apart. Stephen can’t afford to put his mother into care. Arthur can’t afford to stop working and look after his wife. When a young stranger moves in to care for Edie as her mind unravels, the family is forced to ask: Are we living the way we wanted?
VISITORS is a sharply funny love story that takes a haunting, beautiful look at the way our lives slip past us.

CAST

Edie – late 60s – early 70s. A farmer’s wife who has early signs of dementia. She can recall the past but more and more forgets the present. Despite that she can still be quite perceptive.

Arthur – Edie’s husband late 60s – early 70s. Reticent but wants to do the right thing. Sometimes cantankerous, he gives the appearance of being robust but is prone to falling down.

Stephen – their son, in his early 40s. He did not follow in his father’s footsteps on the farm, rather leaving to work in the insurance business. Somewhat estranged from his family, he is rather discontented and frustrated with life.

Kate – a university graduate in her 20s. Hired by Stephen to look after his parents she is drifting as she tries to decide what to do with her life. She is strong and empathetic.

Accents: Preferably soft ‘west country’ accents for Edie and Arthur. Less so for Stephen. Kate can be any English accent.

No roles have been pre-cast.

It is necessary that you are familiar with the play when you come to the auditions.

IT’S JUST TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE!

With phenomenal music and memorable characters, Jersey Boys follows the fascinating true story of four blue-collar boys from the wrong side of the tracks who became one of the greatest successes in pop-music history: The Four Seasons. A testament to the quality of both book and score, Jersey Boys remains the only jukebox musical to win Broadway’s prestigious Tony award for Best Musical. With a seemingly endless list of chart-topping hits including “Sherry,” “Big Girls Don’t Cry,” “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You,” “December, 1963 (Oh what a night)” and “My Eyes Adored You,” Jersey Boys is the ultimate crowd pleaser.

OCTOBER 8 – 23, 2021
THE NATIONAL THEATRE, MELBOURNE
20 Carlisle St, St Kilda
Character Breakdown
We are looking for a cast of 18 incredibly talented individuals who are equally strong actors as they are singers. Yes there’s The Four Seasons, but the whole ensemble plays a pivotal role in bringing this story to life through a host of diverse and quirky cameos and supporting characters. There is a surprising amount of dancing in Jersey Boys so you will also need to be a strong mover.

The Four Seasons: Frankie, Tommy, Bob, Nick
Must all be strong actors who are great story tellers, very comfortable with traditional four-part harmonies, and excellent movers with all but Frankie convincingly miming playing an instrument while singing and dancing. New Jersey accent required. Individual character descriptions follow.

Frankie Valli (lead): Stage Appearance Age Range 20-35
Famously short, this actor must be under 175cm; very demanding vocally with sweet and strong falsetto, must be able to sing in the style of Frankie Valli; charismatic and charming; has a gritty side as well as a polished veneer.
Range: Strong Tenor to A5, Strong Falsetto to G6
If auditioning for the role of Frankie, then prepare two songs, one of which demonstrates your ability to sing in falsetto.
Bob Gaudio (lead): Stage Appearance Age Range 20-35
The band’s keyboardist and writer; preferably tall; a fresh, intelligent, sensitive and introspective musical prodigy.
Range: Tenor/High Baritone to G5, some supporting falsetto to Db6
Tommy De Vito (lead): Stage Appearance Age Range 25-35
The band’s guitarist, a natural-born leader with a cocky personality. He has a bad-boy quality which is initially appealing but loses its charm once his gambling habit is exposed.
Range: High Baritone to F#5, some supporting falsetto to Db6
Nick Massi (lead): Stage Appearance Age Range 25-35
The band’s bass guitarist, a quiet dreamer who longs for life after The Four Seasons. Laid back with a dry sense of humour. Nick has some of the funniest lines in the show if delivered with dead pan coolness.
Range: Bass/Baritone – low Eb3 to F5
Gyp De Carlo (supporting & cameos): Stage Appearance Age Range 45-55
Tough, mafia-esque ‘Godfather’ who Tommy and Frankie call on to solve issues. This actor will also play other older cameo roles so must be a strong character actor. New Jersey and standard American accents required.
Range: Baritone/Tenor to G#5
Bob Crewe (supporting): Stage Appearance Age Range 30-40
Intelligent and flamboyant; genius music producer and lyricist; an integral part of creating the magic of The Four Seasons.
Range: Baritone/Tenor from low Eb3 to G#5
6 Male Ensemble
The male ensemble will be made up of 6 men who will be in ensemble scenes and share a variety of cameos including Joe Pesci, Nick De Vito, Barry Belson, Hal Miller, Billy Dixon, Norman Waxman, Hank Majewski, Joe Long, Charlie Calello and many others. Must all be strong singers, actors and movers (stronger dance skills will be utilized). New Jersey and standard American accents required. All ethnicities.
Range: Strong harmony singers, all vocal ranges required (Bass-High Tenor). Some supporting falsetto singing needed from all characters.
6 Female Ensemble
The female ensemble will be made up of 6 women who will be in ensemble scenes and share a variety of supporting characters and cameos. Must all be strong singers, actors and movers (stronger dance skills will be utilized). New Jersey and standard American accents required. All ethnicities. The main supporting roles include:
Mary: Frankie’s wife, tough, “seen it all,” Italian, Jersey girl; with a killer sense of humour.
Lorraine: Frankie’s girlfriend, educated, confident, a career girl, not from Jersey.
Francine: Frankie’s daughter, vulnerable, lost and acts up to make up for lack of attention from her Dad.
The Angels: 60s pop group made up of 3 women.
Range: Strong harmony singers, all vocal ranges required (mainly Alto-Mezzo Soprano, belt to D5).

CLOC Musical Theatre promotes an inclusive environment and welcomes all ethnicities, sizes, age ranges and genders to audition for its productions.
