The Spiegeltent at The Pear Tree is the perfect venue for this high energy theatrical extravaganza. Surrounded by leadlight and stained glass windows the faces of the audience, bathed in blue light, are reflected in the bevelled edged mirrors. The audience waits patiently, listening to the 1920’s music playing, then the haughty Monsieur Romeo, the Maitre D’, Master of Ceremonies, enters to instruct the audience of expected theatre etiquette – and the performance begins.
As a theatrical experience “Blanc de Blanc” defies description. An eclectic mix of cabaret, circus, vaudeville, dance, mime, acrobat and trapeze – this production has everything you could wish for. Smooth and sophisticated, chic and elegant, the cast of nine are mesmerising, inducing awe and belly laughing in equal measure. The performers are outstanding: all are easy on the eye, wearing a fashion parade of costumes, and some wearing nothing at all!
Monsieur Romeo revels in his position as host of the event: guiding us through the evening; and later becoming the centre piece of the bacchanalian festival that is the second act.
Blanc de Blanc, White of White, the Champagne so named because it is 100% made from the Chardonnay grape. This production is a 100% tribute to the pleasure of it: the texture, the bubbles, and the sensuality of its taste. Blanc de Blanc is a highlight of Fringe World 2019 and is highly recommended. Showing at The Pear Tree, 388 William Street, Northbridge, until 2 March. Tickets: $35.00 to $89.00. Age Restriction: 18+ – includes nudity and occasional course language. Don’t miss it!
