Remember the excitement last year when a historic photo was taken in Melbourne featuring the casts of the four major musicals playing simultaneously in the newly named East End Theatre District? Then this year, Melbourne again, experienced the excitement of four major musical productions in town.

With the end of the Melbourne season of The Lion King yesterday, the East End Theatre District is currently without a major musical! The four large theatres of the East End Theatre District sit empty, awaiting their upcoming seasons of Georgy Girl (Her Majesty’s Theatre), Cats the Musical (The Regent Theatre) and Fiddler on the Roof (The Princess Theatre), all of which open in December.

However, Melbournian musical theatre lovers need not worry how to fill their November. The Arts Precinct has it covered with two Australian premieres!

The first is City of Angels which opens this coming Thursday at the Playhouse for just four performances. Featuring a star-studded cast, this is a rare opportunity to see this show produced at a professional level in this country.

City of Angels features some well known songs that many musical theatre lovers will already be familiar with, despite not having seen the actual show.

The other show to keep Melbournians entertained in November is Jerry’s Girls, which will open at the Arts Centre Playhouse on November 21st.
