Applications are now open for the two-year Contemporary Asian Australian Performance (CAAP) Directors Initiative at Melbourne Theatre Company.

The initiative, aimed at unearthing, nurturing and developing Asian Australian directors for the stage, is a partnership between CAAP, MTC, Queensland Theatre and Sydney Theatre Company.

The CAAP Directors Initiative begins with a one-week workshop at each company, which will provide high-level skills training and an opportunity to identify potential candidates for the full two-year program.

The initial workshop at Melbourne Theatre Company will take place from 12-16 May, facilitated by MTC Associate Directors Sarah Goodes and Dean Bryant.

Following this workshop, participants for the two-year tailored training program will be selected.

The first year will include skills-based lectures, close up observation of mainstage productions, directing workshops, and a range of professional development and networking opportunities.

In its second year, the program will provide hands-on directorial training and engagement with the host companies.
