Media were on hand today for Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber’s first visit to the set of the Australian premiere season of Love Never Dies.
Lord Lloyd Webber flew into Melbourne just yesterday and took the chance immediately to meet the cast of the highly anticipated production. He was introduced on stage today by Australian producer Tim McFarlane and Director Simon Phillips (pictured). Designer Gabriela Tylesova (right) was also on hand for her brilliant creation to be admired.
Lloyd Webber oohed and aahed at the spectacle, and assured the crowd that the settings are nothing like the London production.
Tylesova was quite pleased at Lloyd Webber’s reactions.
Lloyd Webber admired the Regent Theatre’s glorious chandelier. “Ah, that’s a red herring” quipped Phillips.
The production team were dwarfed by the Phantasma proscenium arch as it rotated into place.
The full effect.
An exotic showcloth fills the mask-inspired pro arch.
Seen in back: perhaps an ode to the trumpeting elephant from Hannibal, the opera in Phantom of the Opera?
Footlights are styled as ghastly masks.
Love Never Dies opens on 28 May at Melbourne’s Regent Theatre.
