Melissa Langton is back to her favourite cabaret venue in Melbourne, Chapel off Chapel, to perform A Singer Must Die

It was around 1998 when everyone wanted to do cabaret!  Cabaret venues were filling up around Melbourne.  Venues like Mietta's, Capers, Cafe K and Chapel off Chapel were filled with music theatre performers, singing their show tunes in between show gigs!  This is where Melissa Langton started.  After performing for 5 years in some large touring shows including Jesus Christ Superstar and the popular Gilbert & Sullivan Trilogy, (Pirates, Mikado & Pinafore), she and Mark Jones wrote a cabaret show and put it on at Cafe K, which was situated around the corner from The Princess Theatre.  In Melissa's words, "it was a bit rough and I remember saying, and now for my next song a lot, and I'm certain that afterwards I swore I would never do it again" but it's 15 years later and she clearly did do it again.

In 2001 she and Mark won the coveted Sydney Cabaret Convention which took them to New York to perform at The New York Cabaret Convention and Don't Tell Mama's, a popular cabaret venue in New York.  They then came back to Australia and performed their show in all major cities.  In 2002, they were nominated for 4 Green Room Awards of which they won two; Best Cabaret Group/Dup and Best Cabaret Artist.  Since then, Melissa and Mark have written many shows together, including What Do You Think Of Me So Far???, No Room To Swing A Cat, A Walk on the Wild Side and Can You Hear Me Up The Back.

So, it's been 8 years since the last new show.  And Melissa Langton is back to her favourite cabaret venue in Melbourne, Chapel off Chapel, to perform A Singer Must Die…..and other bedtime stories.  For the first time though, without Mark Jones on piano.  No, they didn't get divorced between then and now.  Mark is directing the show, so he will sit out and watch, whilst the talented Stephen Gray sits at the piano.  The show will feature new arrangements from Mark Jones, of music by Leonard Cohen, Jacques Brel, Rufus Wainwright, Alanis Morisette, Dillie Keane and more.
