This year has brought an unprecedented set of challenges never before seen for the arts sector. The prospect of social isolation is not conducive to theatre making or performing and the fallout for artists losing their jobs is a serious threat. We would like to send our love and thoughts to any artists going through hard times, and can only hope that this will be short lived. At Arena, we are trying hard to ensure our artists still have work, and we are developing existing projects to adapt to the circumstances.
Unfortunately most our international tour and Bendigo return season of Robot Song and the premiere of A Kindling Throne planned for this year have been postponed. We have been fortunate enough to secure new bookings for Robot Song at The Capital Theatre, Bendigo in October, and Imaginate Childrens Festival in Edinburgh in 2021. The team at Arena are hard at work (in their respective houses or in Christians case, isolated in the studio!) fine tuning some existing works and using this time to brainstorm and develop upcoming works.
So in these challenging times, all we can do is say; stay safe, stay strong and in the immortal words of Frank Turner:
“In a world that has decided
That it’s going to lose its mind
Be more kind, my friends, try to be more kind”
