In an environmentally ravaged Australia of the future, everything has dried up, run out, or fled. As day turns to night The Weatherman broadcasts his poet prophecy across the landscape.
Amongst this desolation, four people start new beginnings. They grow new roots. They crack through dirt. They bud and sprout.
After the runaway success of their production of John Patrick Shanley’s Where’s My Money? in 2020-2021, 7th Floor Theatre are excited to be producing this brilliant Australian work 10 years after if was first staged.
Sprout is the debut play from Jessica Bellamy, and was the winner of the Rodney Seaborn Playwrights Award 2011, as well as finalist in the World Wildlife Fund Creative Arts Award 2012.
Producer and Co-Artistic Director of 7th Floor Theatre Catherine Ward says: “The relevance of Sprout to today’s audiences cannot be overstated, it is a play that grapples with environmental devastation, the power of language, social duty, freedom, and the significance of hope. We cannot wait to present this fantastic Australian work to audiences post-lockdown.
