ANNUAL AUSTRALIAN CABARET SHOWCASE CELEBRATES 10th YEAR WITH HUGE PRIZES

The 10th Annual Australian Cabaret Showcase is set to present a new line-up of talent across Australia this December. Now in its 10th year, this year’s Showcase will be the biggest yet! Produced by Your Enterprises, the event provides the opportunity for cabaret and musical theatre talent at all stages of their career, to showcase their abilities in front of an audience and before a panel of judges including some of Australia’s leading entertainers and industry professionals, while competing for an incredible prize package.

The showcase has built a reputation for the high standard of its performers and as a springboard into Australia’s professional entertainment industry. Past winners have gone on to become established professional entertainers on both stage and screen and include James Millar, Nick Christo, Elenoa Rokobaro, Tom Sharah and Sheridan Harbridge.

This year’s event goes national with heats in Sydney, a return to Melbourne for the second time as well as a heat in Noosa for the first time, while the stakes are raised again with two new sponsors signing on as major partners of the 10th annual event. The recently revived Brisbane Cabaret Festival returns as a Major Partner, as well as an exciting new venture with The New York Musical Theatre Festival (NYMF). This will coincide with existing Major Partners The Adelaide Cabaret Festival, The Melbourne Cabaret Festival, The Noosa Longweekend Festival and The Ballarat Cabaret Festival which will complete the bill of Major Partners for 2012. The Ron and Margaret Dobell Foundation will once again provide a cash prize of $1000 for the Festival Prize winner, while also continuing their work supporting Melbourne artists by travelling and accommodating the Melbourne heat winner to and from the Sydney Grand Final event. Prizes at this years annual event will once again include the opportunity for the winner to perform a newly devised show at each of the 2013 Major Partner Festivals which for this year’s winner, will also include the opportunity to perform their solo show at The New York Musical Theatre Festival (NYMF) in the U.S, with flights and accommodation generously being contributed by The Ron and Margaret Dobell Foundation. All Festival appearances include accommodation and flights and the winner will also receive a photographic and design package courtesy of Blueprint Studios, as well as publicity for their tour courtesy of I.P Publicity.

The  Executive Producer of the annual event, also General Manager of The New York Musical Theatre Festival Jeremy Youett said, “Providing new talent the opportunity to perform and be discovered by the Australian industry is something I strongly believe in and the continued support of some of the countries greatest Music Festivals is an integral part of the events success. In my 6th year producing the Showcase, I’m excited to announce that this year’s winner will receive the biggest prize package we’ve ever been able to offer! Not only will they receive a fully produced Australian tour, but for the first time in the 10 year history of the event they will also be invited to perform in New York at the New York Musical Theatre Festival with flights and accommodation included, thanks to the generous support of The Ron and Margaret Dobell Foundation. The Showcase has moved from strength to strength and I’m excited to be able to share this year’s winner not only with Australian audiences, but also with the Broadway community for the first time!”

Guest judges this year include legendary Australian entertainer and Patron of the annual event David Campbell, Noosa Long Weekend Festival Artistic Director Ian Mackellar, Melbourne Cabaret Festival Artistic Directors Neville Sice and David Read, Ballarat Cabaret Festival Director Graeme Russell and acclaimed industry guests including Lisa Campbell, Chloe Dallimore, Margi De Ferranti, Les Solomon and Phil Scott.

Each performer is asked to perform an eight minute set with interlinking dialogue. Winners from every heat are then invited to perform in the Grand Final in Sydney (with flights and accommodation provided) on Saturday 22nd December at Sydney’s acclaimed live music venue The Basement.

This year’s competition is open to people 18+ at all stages of their career but places are limited.
