A country road.  A tree.  Evening.

La Mama Theatre.  Carlton.  Winter.

The wait is over… Godot returns to La Mama. After a sell-out season in 2009, Samuel Beckett’s austere evocation of hope deferred returns at last to the paint-encrusted walls of Melbourne’s minute landmark.

Interior… Exterior… Performance… Life

Two men, two others, and a boy.  Twice.

Waiting For Godot

When you think traditional drama & theatre, you often think Godot. I don’t know how I can call myself a drama geek having never seen or studied the play until now, but knowing nothing of the show (except *spoiler alert* that Godot never shows up) made no difference as I was swept up in the predicaments of Estragon & Vladimir, perfectly portrayed by Bruce Kerr & John Flaus. It’s a show many people idolise (I could hear Beckett fans behind me in the audience whispering the dialogue at one stage) & this production found the moments of humor & tragedy & highlighted them beautifully. The very intimate performance space at La Mama made it seem like an extra special performance that only a select few were privy to.
