Alexander Theatre, Monash University, Clayton.
This was the first collaboration between WS Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan, and premiered for a successful run at the Gaiety Theatre in London in 1871. Unheard since then, the score was presumed lost, until Anthony Baker and Timothy Henty’s scrupulous reconstruction was ‘re-premiered’ in Britain in 2008 to unanimous popular and critical acclaim.
This is a brand new production, directed by James Wright, with Musical Direction by John Ferguson.
Gilbert and Sullivan Opera Victoria is proud and excited to be premiering this lost treasure on Australian soil, and we invite you to join in the celebrations.
THE SEASON IS STRICTLY LIMITED.
