In the theatre world, Performing Jekyll and Hyde is a huge risk to take because it requires a versatile male lead who is prepared for arguably one of the most demanding roles. I went into the theatre and after 20 minutes of what i found to be a disappointing Jekyll, i didn't expect much, however I was surprised and deeply impressed when the transition to the song "Alive", along with the first appearance of Mr Hyde, came along.
Leighton Irwin's portrayal of Mr Hyde was far beyond my expectations and absolutely amazing, I found after the song that i was sitting on the edge of my seat and wanting more. This happened again at the end of act I in the alive reprise. From that point on i was able to connect with the characters and enjoy the show.
There was one particular song in the show that really stood out to me, i will remember it forever, and that was "confrontation". Leighton's acting, singing and the excellent and clever use of lighting had me crouching out of my seat, that's how drawn in I was.
I congratulate Leighton on his fantastic acting and singing skills, particularly concerning his characterization of Mr Hyde.
And well done to the rest of the cast.
