WHAT’S HAPPENING AROUND AUSTRALIAN THEATRES?
For the first time ever, the annual Helpmann Awards will be held in Sydney over two evenings. The curtain raiser will be held at Town Hall on July 15th. This evening will celebrate the people who work behind the scenes and in supporting roles, with performances by up and coming performers in a cabaret style event. July 16th will be held at the Capitol Theatre on the set of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. The cast of Priscilla will perform alongside the industry’s best and brightest stars in a black tie event.
Nominees will be announced on June 18th, with tickets for the events on sale now.

Theatre Footy Day
The time has come to warm up your voice and grab your megaphones as the 8th annual Theatre Footy Day takes place on Monday, May 28th in St Kilda, Melbourne. This event will see some of Australia’s top performers and creatives swap their sequins for footy boots, all in the name of charity. All money raised on the day will help Beyond Blue continue their great work.

Monday, May 7th saw the announcement of the full cast for the Australian production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s EVITA. Joining the previously announced Tina Arena in principal roles are Tony Award winner Paulo Szot (South Pacific) as Juan Peron, Kurt Kansley (Miss Saigon) as Che, Michael Falzon (We Will Rock You) as Magaldi and newcomer Alex Van Maanen as Mistress. Fresh from The Wizard of Oz, Jemma Rix will alternate the role of Eva Peron. Bring It On
The cast of the Australian professional premiere of Bring It On has been announced ahead of the show’s Melbourne season next month. Playing Campbell will be Matilda alumni Nadia Komazec alongside newcomer Elandrah Feo who will portray Danielle. Joining Komazec and Feo onstage in principal roles will be Karla Tonkich (Grease) as Eva , Hollie James (We Will Rock You) as Kyla , Emily Thompson as Skylar, Connor Sweeney (Muriel’s Wedding) as Steven, Nicola Bowman as Bridget, Ashley Roussety (Spring Awakening) as Cameron , Marty Alix as La Cieniga, Samantha Bruzzese (The Bodyguard) as Nautica, Thomas McGuane (Jersey Boys) as Randall and Tarik Frimpong (Mary Poppins Returns) as Twig.

Priscilla cast performs at AFL’s Beyond Blue Cup
Friday, May 11th saw the cast of hit musical Priscilla, Queen of the Desert perform pre show in front of a packed stadium at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) ahead the AFL’s Beyond Blue Cup between Hawthorn and Sydney. The cast performance of two numbers including Act 2 number “We Belong” serves to highlight the plight of both Priscilla and the Hawthorn Football club to de – stigmatise conversations surrounding mental health. Mother’s Day Classic
Congratulations to the casts of Beautiful and Mamma Mia! who took part in the 2018 Mother’s Day Classic in Melbourne and Perth respectively. After their evening show the cast of Beautiful held a bucket collection to raise extra funds.
