Tony Sheldon celebrates 1800 shows
Congratulations to Priscilla Queen of the Desert’s Tony Sheldon who on Wednesday March 7th celebrated his 1800th show portraying transgender character Bernadette. Sheldon and the cast are currently playing at Melbourne’s Regent Theatre to rave reviews. The bus will travel to Sydney, Adelaide and Brisbane later this year. For full tour details head to https://
Unmasked: The Platinum Collection
Australian performers Martin Crewes (Dream Lover), Tim Minchin (Matilda) and Ben Lewis (Phantom of the Opera) perform on Andrew Lloyd Webber’s new album Unmasked.
In celebration of his 70th birthday this March, the album will be available 16th March through Universal Music.
The collection is personally curated and overseen by Lloyd Webber to include classics from his earliest work starting with 1968’s Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat through his most recent School of Rock.
Crewes performs ‘Evermore Without You’ from The Woman in White, Lewis performs ‘The Beauty Underneath’ from Love Never Dies (alongside Casey Lyons) and Minchin performs ‘Heaven on Their Minds’ from Jesus Christ Superstar.
This week saw the announcement that the Hayes Theatre Company’s critically acclaimed production of the darkly entertaining, revue-style musical Assassins, will play in the Sydney Opera House’s Playhouse this June, starring the acclaimed actor, singer and showman David Campbell (Dream Lover).
Continuing their roles from the Hayes Theatre Company season are David Campbell (Dream Lover) appears as John Wilkes Booth alongside Connor Crawford (The Sound of Music, City of Angels), Hannah Fredericksen (Dream Lover, Heathers), Kate Cole (Ladies in Black, Sweet Charity), Bobby Fox (Ladies in Black, High Society, Blood Brothers), Jason Winston (formerly known as Jason Kos) (Cabaret, Miracle City), Rob McDougall (Les Misérables), Justin Smith (The Detective’s Handbook, Billy Elliott) and Maxwell Simon (Assassins at the Hayes Theatre).

On Monday, March 5th Neglected Musicals announced that their next show will be Big River- The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.
Big River is set in pre-Civil War Missouri, near St. Petersburg, Huckleberry Finn describes the events by which he and Tom Sawyer discover their fortune. Casting to be announced.
The last major Australian production starred Cameron Daddo as Huckleberry Finn, John English as Pap Finn, John Bell as The Duke and featured Marcia Hines and Michael Edward Stevens, it opened in 1989 at Her Majesty’s Theatre, Sydney. It also played Her Majesty’s Theatre, Melbourne and the Festival Theatre in Adelaide.

Monday, March 5th saw the announcement of the cast for StageArts production of Garfield.
Lachlan Graham (Follies in Concert) as Garfield, Grace Browne (Spring Awakening) as Arlene, Callum Warrender (Memphis) as Odie, Alec Steedman (Twelth Night) as John and Laura Greenhalgh (Memphis) as Nermel.

Don’t Call Me Ishmael
Underground Broadway presents Don’t Call Me Ishmael, an Australian musical is based on Michael Gerard Bauer’s award-winning novel of the same name and tells the story of Ishmael Leseur who suffers from Leseur syndrome; all the bad luck in the world and the worst name any introverted teenager could ask for.
Playing Ishmael is Oliver Samson, with Philip Jones (West Side Story) as James Scobie, Elliot Baker (I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change) as Ron/ Mr Barker, Carlo Boumouglbay (West Side Story) as Barry Bagsley, Ashleigh Denning (Underground Opera) as Miss Tarango, Lachlan Griffith (West Side Story) as Bill Kingsley, Oliver Lacey (West Side Story) as Orazio Zorzotto, Michael Mandalios (There’s Something About Mary(s) as Ignatius Prindabel, Candice Holyoak as Prue/ Marty and Jordan Malone (West Side Story) as Kelly Faulkner.
It is a powerful piece of theatre for anyone who’s ever been through the jungle of high school, has needed to stand up and find their own voice, or those who have struggled to find their place in the world.
