Casting

Why do productions of Grease constantly cast 30-somethings as the teenage roles in this show???

That's generally how casting

That's generally how casting works in both amateur and proffesional theatre. It's mostly down to things such as experience and training (relying just on talent can only take you so far for most people) or having a 'name' in the cast. Where as you could cast all the teenage roles in Grease with teenagers, in most cases you can get a just as convincing look and far better performances off people who are ten years older. You can see this in the movie of Grease (Olivia Newton-John was almost thirty and Stockard Channing was thirty four) and in pretty much nearly every proffesional production.

Casting

Surely you can just be happy with a show that seems to be entertaining the majority of people (myself included). Maybe instead of complaining about every little detail in a show, you should go and enjoy the show? Windmill Theatre Company's production of Grease was one of the most entertaining shows that I've seen in a very long time and they should certainly be commended for their highly energetic performance last Friday. Chookas for the rest of the run and don't let internet trolls like "Anonymous" stop you from putting on such an amazing show.

ummmmm

because that is how the show is written.....

Amen anonymous!

"because that is how the show is written....." So true!! I'm getting a little sick of people commending poor production companies for the "great" jobs they do on plays just because the writing's quality.... (not that I've seen this particular prod of Grease but it happens all the freakin time! Hint hint Breakfast Club!!)
