Hey Hollywood
Why is it so quiet on stage?
Submitted by Brigid De Neefe on Friday, 3rd Sep 2010
Hey, in the past TP Talk used to be a daily source of inspiration, comedy and (sometimes) bitchin'. How come everyone has gone SO incredibly quiet?
Let's see; what can I talk about? Lots of shows coming up, audition time again, audition experiences definitely worth laughing about . . . . Oh, so you think that's what I always talk about? Go on . . .your turn.
I wouldn't mind hearing something from our country theatre companies - I still remember the brilliant "Officer Krupke" performance at last year's Guilds by the Wonthaggi West Side guys - what's going on down there next?

Its too hard to post things!
Its too hard to post things! I was given a login that never worked and so now all I can do is respond to things that other people post!

I agree it is a little quiet
I agree it is a little quiet Miss Brigid. Facebook may be a contributing factor but I also don't think the new layout of discussion threads is very user friendly. An initial comment can be easily viewed but then any subsequent responses/comments are "hidden" from general view if you haven't posted and ticked the notify me box. It's not practical to rely on remembering how many comments existed the last time a post was updated and often I don't feel inclined to continually re-open the thread again just to check.

Good points Beryle
I agree Beryle that it is a difficult way to keep track of new posts by looking at the number of comments on each post. This is why it is a good idea to log in when you look at TP talk because it will tell you under each post, which one has new comments. When you have viewed those comments, it will no longer be listed as 'new'.
I think some time soon though, we could look at putting up a 'latest comments' box on the front page or in the side bar though so people can see the latest user comments on TPTalk posts and also news articles, features etc.

This is a test post to show how easy it is for anyone to post.
Solution
Hi Guys,
Ok. So I got into the site as a user, not an administrator, posted a comment and waited for it to be approved (commnets are approved several times daily). You don't need to log in to post comments on an exisiting topic, but you do need to be logged in to start a new conversation. I will adress this with our web team and see if we can come up with a solution, so unregistered users can post freely. Leah - You are not a registered user. I suggest setting up your log in again and let me know if you have any issues.
If you have any issues with the site and logging in, please email webmaster@theatrepeople.com.au
The previous TP Talk format required you to scroll through and re-read all comments across all topics to see if any new posts had been made, so this format is actually more efficient as it notifies you on the TP homepage if any new comments have been added to the topic you are interested in. You can also tick the "notify me" tickbox under your comment which will tell you each time someone replies to your posting. It only takes an extra mouse click.
What I am hearing from you guys is perhaps you like to read through a range of topics, rather than go into each specific topic. A more free flowing conversation, rather than a segmented toptic by topic format. The current format seemed easier to us, as the old format jumped between coversations and could sometimes get confusing. However... If that's the format you'd prefer, then we'll certainly look at going back to the old format.
Before we do that... I would like to see you try the method above first and let's hear what you have to say (on other theatre topics, not on how to post) before we reconfigure the site completely. I think we just need something interesting to talk about first, so I welcome your postings there :-)
Thanks again for your feedback. We really appriecate it.
Cheers.

I enjoyed the other format
I enjoyed the other format much more, i now just check the facebook page for gossip and news cos it seems much more instantaneous, but I must say, I am super excited about the amount of new musicals that are coming out at the moment, particularly Avenue Q next year and Stella doing It's Only Life.
Logging in
Thanks Tim. I must confess I have never been clear on the advantages of logging in. I think many of us are just happy to "observe" without committing which is usually what I do! Latest comments box sounds like a good idea though.
Also, just to illustrate my point, and Allie's post reminded me of this, I would have thought there would be a much greater response to Stella's news of doing It's Only Life with John Bucchino as MD and that auditions will be in October! Exciting news indeed but the announcement was only confirmed a couple of posts into the thread and then no further comments.
Hughesy, what about an updated feature article on the workings and feedback of the new site which would allow you to cover some of these issues?
I now have trouble just
I now have trouble just getting onto your website. It is frequently unavailable and it can take me several days to gain access. Any suggestions?
