Rehearsal Schedules
Submitted by Anonymous on Tuesday, 19th Jun 2012
Why is it that most theatre companies seem to have the same rehearsal schedules, generally Sunday and Thursday and usually Tuesday. Is it purposely so people can't do multiple shows at once or just coincidental?
...

Productions these days
Productions these days generally require 3 rehearsals per week and these are the days which work best so as not to impede on modern society's 'sacred' days (ie. Friday & Saturday). A lot of prods also do Mon/Wed/Sun, guess it depends on what works best for them.
Companies certainly aren't conspiring together to ensure people only do one show, but they most definitley shouldn't be making it easier for people to do so.
Its definitely coincidence
Its definitely coincidence and I have to say I've managed to be involved with two shows at the same time, many times. Damn exhausting - I dont recommend it but then again, twice the fun!!
The need to be in two shows?
I've only really crewed shows besides appearing once as the only male Brainiact in whitehorse's High School Musical, but I have to say that even being involved mentally in more than one show is stressful - my question to annon is why is there the need to commit to more than one production? Different if one is nearly going into production with the other one just starting.....
The other thought I have is how can you truely commit yourself to two productions? I've been involved in production teams and involved in shows when we've had people working on other productions that we are aware of when casting - it makes the rehearsal schedule damn hard especially since you are usually so time-poor for a rehearsal period as it is.
As for the rehearsal days, really depends on the company and sometimes availability of rehearsal space. Having just finished working with Babirra, they rehearse Mondays (which personally are hard for me) Thursday and Sundays. But great topic!
