Musician Positions available in Melbourne Musicals!

Hello everyone! I'm really interested in getting more involved in orchestra pits in musical theatre and was wondering if anyone can help me out? I live in Melbourne and am 17years of age! I play the following instruments: clarinet, bass clarinet, flute, piccolo, soprano sax, alto sax, tenor sax, baritone sax. All at around ameb grade 7 :) I'm new to musical orchestra pit, I have only performed in seussical the musical. However I am currently in the Melbourne youth wind symphony and have had experience in other ensembles! :) I would appreciate any advice anyone could give me! Thankyou

Hi Judy, When shows are announced, look for the name of the MD and contact them through the theatre company. I know that in the company I am involved with, all emails or phone calls are passed on. Even if you are not successful with that particular show (perhaps because the MD may have already established their team for that show), you at least have their name, and thus you build up your network. Also, musicians themselves often are not able to do every single performance and rehearsal, and may be looking for a standin for a particular night. Once they get confidence in your ability to perform, you may get some work as a standin. Good luck.
