Helpmann Awards 2010

Information on the Helpmann Awards, or as TP Head Honcho Hughsey calls them: The Help!mann Awards, received a big round of indifference on the TP facebook page.

Did anyone watch the awards?

Does it mean anything to win one?

We all get excited about the Tony Awards, not to mention the Guild Awards, how could the Helpmanns raise their profile and become more relevant and stimulating?

I thought they were a bit

I thought they were a bit embarrasing especially compared to the likes of The Tonys. They reeked of cheapness and lacked class.

Lowlights for me included:

David Campbell. As a song-and-dance man, he's great. But with the dick jokes (the holding of the 'Bobby') and the cruel reference to where the Billy Elliots are now (nasty to both them and ushers), I thought his hosting was tragic.

The camera work of many of the acts was appalling. They nearly ruined the Mary Poppins number.

iota may be brilliant but that number just made him look deranged.

Once again, the supporting categories are treated like second-class citizens and not shown.

The highpoint? Our Cate turning up despite being snubbed for Streetcar. Oh, and Avenue Q doing so well in the acting categories.
