Excited to see the 'next generation' coming through.

No, this isn't a Star Trek related post. Just wanted to say what I great experience I had as MD for Babirra's (sold out!) season of 'Oliver'. Seeing a group of kids coming in and beginning to learn what theatre's all about was as big a thrill as I've had in twenty years of theatre. For me, it was the very definition of 'community theatre' whilst still creating quality theatre. (Let's face it, if you're charging $40ish a ticket, you have an obligation to put QUALITY on stage. Congratulations to Babirra on another great production, I'm looking forward to seeing 'Hello Dolly'. Ryan Jacobs ('Oliver' - Musical Director)

Great quality community theatre
I too would like to say how amazed I am at the quality of community theatre I have seen around Brisbane and particularly the Gold Coast. Coming from the UK where I could pop to the West End after work and see anything for $20/$30 I was not keen on shlepping to QPAC paying $150 a ticket so I tried a community theatre on the Gold Coast, Spotlight Theatrical Company. My expectations were low, very low, well you can imagine after the West End? Obviously I am writing this about the talent on the Gold Coast so obviously I was blown away by the standard and committment I saw and heard at Spotlight and have never been disappointed since. Just recently I fell in love with four boys in Forever Plaid, laughed and cried through Blood Brothers, excited to see a pantomime Aladdin in the school holidays and CANNOT WAIT for ALL SHOOK UP to open in August! Community Theatre Rocks!!
I Need Actors
Could you please help me, I had a comedy night booked for the 18th of July "Sexytime " by Tess Waters from melb, she had to cancel due to an opportunity she couldnt refuse and so has left me with a room full of people paying $15 per head and no comedy night, I know it is late notice as I only just found out too, is there any possibility of a few actors looking for a school night of paid work to give a great group of people a laff, this was to be held in our beautiful home in Willow Vale just north of Dreamworld. Just 60min of laffs and were happy and you get all the takings, as well as alot of appreciation from me for helping me out. This concept is Lounge room theatre and it really works. Please help if you can. Thank you Ruthi
