Survival of the Fittest – Youth Impro Games
Submitted by Renee Maloney on Tuesday, 9th Mar 2010
In 2006 the Youth Impro Games were established by Adlib Entertainment to provide students with an alternative type of competition to the traditional athletic or academic variety and to give students a setting in which to help build up social, communication and other ‘life’ skills.
In 2009 the secondary schools that competed included Methodist Ladies College, Scotch College, St Joseph’s College Ferntree Gully, Casey Grammar, Drouin Secondary College, St Francis and Killester College.
Last year’s thrilling Grand Final was held at The Burrinja Arts Centre and everyone had an absolute ball including our special guest judge, ‘Neighbours’ star, Matt “Zeke” Werkmeister. The response from the students, the teachers involved and the parents was overwhelming.
In 2006 the Youth Impro Games were established by Adlib Entertainment to provide students with an alternative type of competition to the traditional athletic or academic variety and to give students a setting in which to help build up social, communication and other ‘life’ skills.Consequently the Youth Impro Games is a great opportunity for students to develop sharpness of mind, confidence and presentation skills in a structured, yet fun, team based environment. With the popularity of such shows as “Thank God You’re Here”, ‘Impro’ has never been more popular. Whether seeking a career in business, law, politics, education, medicine or the performing arts, improvisation is an invaluable skill to add to one’s repertoire.

The competition in 2009 was fierce with both the Junior and Senior sections being taken away by MLC.
The success of the 2009 also inspired the Special event “Youth Impro Games Survival of The Fittest”, a competition pitting the best individual performers against each other. With the winner being Eamon Glass from St Joseph’s College Ferntree Gully.
