Adlib Entertainment & Ferntree Gully Nissan's Youth Impro Games 2010
Submitted by Matt Hillman on Friday, 2nd Jul 2010
The Seniors are always a treat to watch onstage, and this year was no exception. It is a great gift to be able to get up on stage and simply go for it, improvising scene after hilarious scene in all manner of styles. These kids, from six different teams, all made it look so incredibly easy. Returning to the fray in 2010 after a year off, the Knox School proved once again why they are previous champions and such fierce competitors. Not only did they enter three separate teams into the contest this year, but they also managed to excel at their respective heats and semi-finals to make sure that all three teams made it through to the Grand Final. It was always going to be a tough ask for the other three teams to trump the Knox School, and it was very close, with only nine points separating the pack at the end of round two. With one round to go, it was fierce, feisty and fun, as each team lifted their game to outdo each scene that went before them.
The Youth Impro Games - Survival of the Fittest contest puts students onstage together in an all out improv-fest to see who can outlast all the rest to become the last one standing. This time, instead of representing their school, they are literally on their own.

What an outstanding season our teams put forward for this year’s competition. With new schools competing for the first time, as well as returning veterans of the games back for more excitement, I for one couldn't be happier with the competition, and am already looking forward to the 2011 series.

The Grand Final of the competition was held on Sunday 6th June at the new Gem Community Arts Centre in Emerald, the fabulous well kept secret in the heart of the Dandenongs. After a series of heats and thrilling semi-finals, the final eleven teams of both the junior and senior sections of the competition took to the stage, one final time.
In an epic clash of school versus school, the junior grand final was an amazing display of young students (years 7 to 9) presenting some incredible battles of wits, physical comedy, and some very memorable gags. We were taken back to the times of chariot racing in ancient Rome, were pitched a new mop that cleans in spectacular fashion, 'hands free', and even had some inter-team heckling!
However, it was Camberwell High School's 'Kinder Drop Outs' that took out the Junior title, and it was well deserved as they presented some amazing scenes and expressed wonderful improvisation skills.

judges with their final scene, an improvised musical about a supermarket with a donkey running loose in isle four.Congratulations to all the teams and schools that took part in this year's contest, you helped make the competition the very best it has been.
Further congratulations must also go to the two best individual performers on the day at the Grand Final, who were also awarded the coveted $200.00 cash prize from our chief sponsors, Ferntree Gully Nissan. Well done Nina Incerti-Zapedowski (Junior) and Ryan Jemmeson (Senior) on their outstanding efforts at the grand final.
I for one, can't wait to see what the teams have in store for us next year. Bring on 2011!
But, if you can't wait till then, there's a little individual contest that Adlib's offering to those that think they've got what it takes to perform without a safety net. It is a chance to put your skills to the ultimate test.
The Youth Impro Games - Survival of the Fittest contest puts students onstage together in an all out improv-fest to see who can outlast all the rest to become the last one standing. This time, instead of representing their school, they are literally on their own.Split up into two opposing tribes, each team performs for the audience, and if they do so well enough to win the audience's favour, they'll earn themselves immunity from the vote, and prolong their life in the game. They'll need to learn to think outside the box, think on the fly and think fast in order to make it all the way to end. If they fail to do so, they risk being voted out by their tribe, and go home with nothing.
We already have a few competitors who have won themselves wild-card entries into this year's contest by representing their school in the Youth Impro Games. But they need competition, and we're looking for a collection of the craziest, most irreverent young performers out there to come join them in what promises to be another amazing night of entertainment. And who knows? You might just walk away with the top prize, and most importantly, the title of Youth Impro Games Champion 2010.
