Rehearsals are underway for Barnum The Circus Musical, which opens at the Comedy Theatre in Melbourne’s East End Theatre District later this month.

Todd McKenney takes on the character of PT Barnum, following in the footsteps of some other great showmen – Reg Livermore and Michael Crawford. It’s a role that famously requires the actor to walk a highwire during each performance.

Todd McKenney provides an insight into the rehearsal process of Barnum The Circus Musical, the surprising legacy of PT Barnum, and conquering the highwire (and what will happen if he falls off!).

McKenney has mastered walking across the highwire at a height of 170cm, in preparation for the 2m for the show. Two metres is the highest level he can cross the wire without being required to use a harness due to OHS laws.
