The Copyright Agency’s Cultural Fund has granted $112,000 over three years for the commissioning of 19 new Australian plays by nationally renowned theatre companies Belvoir Company B in Sydney, La Boite Theatre Company in regional Queensland, and Red Stitch Actor’s Theatre in Melbourne.
The Cultural Fund is the philanthropic arm of the Copyright Agency and is dedicated to supporting innovation in the Australian creative industries.
The key projects to receive funding include: Belvoir’s Company B was granted $90,000 over 3 years to commission two playwrights each year for 3 years to write a new Australian play to be developed and programmed for presentation at Belvoir Theatre and/or other Australian or international theatre companies.
Melbourne’s Red Stitch Actors’ Theatre will receive $12,000 in funding to support its ‘Ink’ Writers’ Residency program. Playwrights will work closely with Red Stitch’s artistic director, Ella Caldwell to develop 12 new Australian plays over three years.
La Boite Theatre Company will also receive $10,000 to support its Practice Project which will engage a playwright to write a new work which will be incorporated into an online arts resource kit for teachers and students in regional Queensland. The kit will include the play script, videos of actors rehearsing and performing, lesson plans and a complete unit of work.
The Copyright Agency’s Cultural Fund is now open for Round Two 2017 applications, closing on 9 October 2017.
