After hearing about Sam Simmons for quite a number of years I thought I would finally see what all the fuss was about.

Walking in with no expectations I was excited to see what reaction I would have to Simmons' work.  I can gladly say I was pleasantly surprised. He is quirky and weird and fun and everything about the performance just worked, and it always helps to have a super enthusiastic audience.

Although the Supper Room at The Melbourne Town Hall is a small space Simmons used it very effectively.  Through a well-designed set and his clever use of props he was able to create a number of different spaces and scenarios with the help of a little imagination from the audience.  Even though it was a one-man show extra characters were created through narration and voiceovers, heightening the humour of the performance.

And a show that really was about nothing other than a man going through life, talking to neighbourhood cats, catching the bus, having to put up with ‘that guy’ at work, getting up the courage to talk to his ‘bus crush’ and trying to put together his IKEA flat pack coffee table managed to keep the audience entertained and in fits of laughter the whole way through.

A show definitely worth checking out if you have a good imagination and sense of humour, and aren’t offended by swear words....he tends to use them a lot.  After all, he is an Australian comedian.
