Whitehorse Musical Theatre to Close

Following a recent press release, Whitehorse Musical Theatre decided at a Special General Meeting today that, after forty years in the Melbourne amateur theatre industry, the company will be closing due to lack of both funding and human resources.

It has been known for some time that the company was experiencing financial difficulties following its 2010 season.

Whitehorse posted this on their Facebook page earlier today:

"The committee of Whitehorse Musical Theatre would like to thank everyone, who over the years, have been a part of our company and it's productions. Whitehorse produced many high quality productions over it’s 40 year existence and it was the people who were involved with the company that made it the company that was loved and the Whitehorse ‘family’ that kept people coming back."

For many years I have supported Whitehorse Musical Theatre bringing 40 -60 people to at least one production each year. We are all sad that the group is no longer producing the excellent productions that we enjoyed so much. Each production was as good as any professional company and the Company enabled ordinary people to experience theatre within their financial situation. Many people cannot pay $90 plus to go to the Theatre, but still want to experience quality productions. Whitehorse Musical Theatre fulfilled this desire.
We are all very sad that we can no longer participate in such excellent theatre and thank you for the high quality performances that were presented to us over many years.

Please let me know if you resume in the future.
