Sydney Season Announced for One Man, Two Guvnors in 2013.
Sydney Theatre Company is excited to announce The National Theatre of Great Britain’s smash hit comedy One Man, Two Guvnors, is to be presented by Sydney Theatre Company as part of a national tour.
The current Broadway and West End hit will be a highlight of STC’s 2013 season and Richard Bean’s award winning play will run from 30 March - 11 May at Sydney Theatre. (Opening night: Tuesday 2 April 2013).
Based on Carlo Goldoni's classic 18th-century Italian comedy The Servant of Two Masters, One Man, Two Guvnors is a side splitting comedy set in swinging 1960s Brighton. It is directed by the National Theatre’s Artistic Director Nicholas Hytner and features songs by Grant Olding. The all- British cast is led by Owain Arthur as Francis Henshall, currently starring in the West End production.
Andrew Upton and Cate Blanchett, STC Artistic Directors said: “One Man, Two Guvnors continues STC’s tradition of presenting international work of the highest quality to Sydney audiences. We are thrilled to be able to offer
this fantastic production as part of our final season.’
This highly acclaimed production from the National Theatre follows previous international offerings at STC, from Chicago’s Steppenwolf Theatre (2010’s August: Osage County), Dublin’s Abbey Theatre (2011’s Terminus), and Edinburgh’s Traverse Theatre (Midsummer (a play with songs).
One Man, Two Guvnors won ‘Best Play’ at the Evening Standard Theatre Awards 2011, and on Broadway has received the Outer Critics Circle Award for ‘Outstanding New Broadway Play’ 2012.
The production will open at the 2013 Adelaide Festival in February, and will be presented in mid 2013 in Melbourne by Arts Centre Melbourne and Melbourne Theatre Company.
Tickets will be available as part of a STC 2013 season ticket from early 30 March – 11 May 2013 September. www.sydneytheatre.com.au
