Once wins top honour at Drama Desk Awards
Acclaimed Broadway production Once has won top honors at this year’s Drama Desk Awards.
The 2006 film-turned-Broadway musical scored four awards at the New York City ceremony. Once won Best Musical, Best Director, Lyrics (for singer-songwriters Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova) and Best Orchestration.
The hit musical is now up for 11 Tony Awards.
Other winners include Nina Raine’s Tribes which won for Outstanding Play; Newsies The Musical, took home Outstanding Music and Choreography; the Broadway revival of Arthur Miller's"Death of a Salesman, which won for Outstanding Play Revival, Director and Lighting Design.
Audra McDonald (The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess) won for Outstanding Actress in a Musical, and James Corden won the top acting award trophy for One Man, Two Guvnors.
