New Musical "For the Boys"

A new musical based on the Oscar-nominated movie starring Bette Midler and James Caan is opening at the Marriott Theatre in Lincolnshire, Illinois.

The world-premiere is being staged in August and the film has been adapted for the stage by Aaron Thielen. Marc Robin is directing and choreographing the production and Dr. Ryan Neson is musically directing a score that draws from three decades of popular music favourites.

The story: It was 1942. The world was at war and Eddie Sparks was on top. Nobody could out-sing, out-step, or out-charm Eddie, America’s premier entertainer… until Dixie Leonard came along. Together they entertained American troops, in times of war and peace, and the world was their stage. Their act was sensational and their relationship extraordinary. Offstage, they fought their own personal war, but when the nation needed them they were there. For over 30 years, three wars, and hundreds of shows…they did it all “For the Boys.”

Ummm Dunno!

The movie is great... (hello tears) but is that the cinematography or the story or both... not so sure how it would translate... to hear that music live though would be AMAZING, you would hope the 'big band' comes with the show.

not convinced

Loved the movie (even though it was a flop) and would love to see it on the stage but don't think it will be overly successful seeing as everyone knows the movie wasn't as good as it could have been.
