MTC's TRIVIAL NIGHT FOR SERIOUS PEOPLE
Submitted by K.E. Weber on Wednesday, 20th Apr 2011
What style of dance did Baz Luhrmann’s mother teach? What’s the capital of Tunisia? Who did Mike Carlton dub “the Oxleymoron”? If you know the answers and you feel like an exceptionally entertaining and sometimes silly night out, then MTC’s ever popular Trivial Night for Serious People is for you.
This year’s Trivial Night promises to be an evening of low-brow frivolity and medium-brow interrogation, calculated to exercise your neglected fun side. MTC’s Trivial Night is being held on Friday 20 May 2011 from 7pm–11pm at the sumptuous and extremely glamorous Clarendon Ballroom at The Langham Melbourne.
This year’s theme is ‘Be Wilde’, which of course is designed to celebrate Simon Phillips’s last year as MTC Artistic Director and the last show he will be directing as our Artistic Director The Importance of Being Earnest. Oscar Wilde once flippantly subtitled the play A Trivial Comedy for Serious People and this year’s Trivial Night is sure to echo Oscar’s sentiments.
The trivia competition will provide the centrepiece for an evening of games, laughter, fine food, fabulous wine and good society – including special guests from the MTC stage who will be scattered like stardust amongst the tables.
Throughout the night you will also have the opportunity to partake in the silent auction or bid on one or two of the live auction items on offer. There is a vast array of one-time only experiences to bid on such as the opportunity to sit next to the Stage Manager backstage at the The Importance of Being Earnest and be involved in ‘calling’ the show.
Or you may prefer to bid on the opportunity to have your Spring Racing Day hat made by our extremely talented in-house milliner Phillips Rhodes, or the amazing New Zealand holiday package. There will be lots of amazing items up for grabs so don’t forget to bring your chequebook as well as some gold coins for the different games sprinkled throughout the evening.
Costumes are not mandatory but are encouraged and a prize will be presented to the best dressed ‘Wilde’ outfit/costume on the night.
This is MTC’s biggest fundraising opportunity for the year and all proceeds go towards MTC’s Education initiatives, commissions, play readings and mentoring the next generation of theatre artists.
MTC’s Trivial Night for Serious People promises to be a night for the ‘Wilde’ at heart. MTC’s Trivial Night’s always book out so book your tickets now before you miss out.
