Mary Poppins Stops Mid-show Again

The Twitterverse has informed us that Mary Poppins stopped for about 10 minutes near the end of Act I last night.

Were you there? Can you tell us what happened?

This is the second technical hitch in a month for the show after the Banks' house recently ran off its tracks, requiring the show to be stopped and the audience and cast sent home.

Fingers crossed Queensland won't have any issues with Mary lands there in December.

When I saw Poppins in

When I saw Poppins in Melbourne, the poor Bert understudy got stuck UPSIDE DOWN at the top of the pro-arch during "Step In Time." In the end he got lowered straight down and landed on the stage about 1 beat before the end of the song. Then the show just continued with some very cleverly disguised stage crew running on to unclip him from his harness, and the cables dangling dangerously around the heads of the energetic dancers.

The whole audience was holding their breath, but I've gotta say, the entire cast (the kids included) were 100% professional and just continued on as if nothing had happened. It was a good talking point while we left the theatre!!

Is this really news? Seems

Is this really news? Seems like you are just drumming up content for the website.
Show stops are a part of live theatre, I myself have seen them in productions of Hairspray and Dusty to name a few that I can remember right off the top of my head. On both occasions there was an overwhelming positive reaction from the audience once the show resumed, demonstrating their excitement in being apart of something unique.

Re: Is this really news? Seems

Hi Andrew,

Possibly not but it's certainly not Feature-worthy!

Sure shows have to stop sometimes, but I posted this purely because Twitter couldn't tell me why the show stopped and if one of our readers was there I'm sure others would be interested to know what actually happened.

This is also the second stop of the show we've heard of in a month (discussed above) which makes it all the more interesting.

Finally, I'd hope that the amount of regular, quality content we produce balances out your thought that we may be simply drumming up content with this very short piece.

And what's wrong with a bit of gossip? Theatre people love gossip. ;)

EDIT: Mind you, I know how you feel. The Age just told me that there was a double rainbow on Wednesday (whoop-de-do): LINK.

Cheers,
