100th How to Succeed Performance Cancelled After Death of Stagehangh
After waiting an hour for the curtain to go up on the 100th performance of broadway smash How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, Daniel Radcliffe and John Laroquette appeared to inform the audience the performance would not be going ahead.
An official statement just released by the company reads :
"This evening's performance of HOW TO SUCCEED IN BUSINESS WITHOUT REALLY TRYING was canceled as a stagehand on the production unexpectedly passed away backstage just prior to the 8pm curtain. The name of the deceased and any further details are being withheld by the authorities pending notification of the family. The incident was not caused by an accident related to the production. The cast, crew and theatre staff mourn the loss of this member of their theatrical family". The New York Times reports that The New York Police Department are investigating and it is believed the stagehand may have died from a drug overdose. No further information is available at this time.
The thoughts of the Theatre People team, and we are sure the Australian theatre community, are with the family and friends of the stagehand, and also the company of How To Succeed... at this time.
