Do you want to explore your creativity in a safe and non-judgemental environment? Have you ever wanted to explore and learn the techniques used by professional actors? Do you want to find an outlet for stress, improve your self-confidence, enhance upfront presentation skills, meet like-minded people, explore your creativity and have a great deal of fun in the process? If so, this course is definitely one for you!

This is a recreational adult drama class run by “Drama With A Difference” – one of Australia’s most established independent drama schools. With a history that spans more than twenty years, it is also the launching pad of many successful Australian actors and its students have appeared in major and guest roles in feature films, just about every TV series that’s been on in the past 20 years, endless ads and professional theatre.

Despite the above, many of our students do not necessarily wish to become actors and attend our classes for other reasons. Drama is good for everybody, regardless of what they do for a living. We are deeply committed to tailoring drama classes for the whole community, and to making drama classes available to adults who may have done some acting (or other courses) or who, may never have acted in their entire lives. That’s what this recreational class is all about. You do not need any prior experience to join this class.

The Recreational Adult Drama Class runs each Thursday from 7.30pm-9.30pm from Kew. It starts on Thursday January 25th, however if you miss the start date, you are welcome to join later on a pro-rata fee basis. The course is designed in such a way that it can accommodate late-comers.

The teacher is a highly experienced professional actor and drama teacher. You will learn the skills of improvisation (coming up with ideas on the spot), group devised scenes, how to create a character, movement (as in how a character moves – not dance!) and a host of other skills. Most people attend the course for the year (or several years!)  but this is not essential. Payment is on a term by term basis. Later in the year, there is an informal in house performance, which is a “work in progress” show. This means that you may carry scripts on stage and that the teacher may be on stage with you if necessary. It is free of charge and only open to the friends and family that you invite. There is no pressure on anyone to perform to any prescribed level, as the focus is on personal best.
