CHRISTINE ANU JOINS THE CAST OF GREASE
FOR SYDNEY SEASON!
Australia’s most iconic female Indigenous entertainer, Christine Anu, will join the cast of GREASE – THE ARENA EXPERIENCE when it heads to Qudos Bank Arena for 3 shows only on the 19th & 20th January.
The Aria award winner will take to the stage in GREASE alongside a cavalcade of stars, including X-Factor winner Isaiah as Johnny Casino and Footy Show favourite Beau Ryan as Vince Fontaine, as well as Meghan O’Shea as Sandy and Damon Wade as Danny. The largest production of GREASE ever staged, the production features over 500 performers on stage, reminiscent of Christine’s iconic performance at the closing ceremony of the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games.
In a unique twist, Christine will take on the role of Teen Angel (which was originally to be played by internationally renowned drag queen Courtney Act before she had to withdraw).
“Teen Angel is traditionally played by a male, but we really wanted to mix things up in this new production,” says producer Tim O’Connor. “Teen Angel appears when Frenchy has just dropped out of beauty school and is feeling lost and looking for guidance, and we couldn’t think of anything more fitting in 2018 than for that advice to come from a kick-ass female! And really, you can’t get more kick-ass than Christine Anu. She’s an Aussie legend, and we’re so pleased to be welcoming her into the cast.”
Christine Anu has enjoyed a long and successful career spanning over two decades as one of Australia’s most loved entertainers. She shot to fame in the early 90’s with the release of her most iconic single, MY ISLAND HOME, and from there went on to win the Aria award for Best Female Recording Artist. As well as enjoying success as a pop singer, she also trod the boards in the original Australian production of RENT, as well as LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS, SOUTH PACIFIC and HAIRSPRAY – THE BIG FAT ARENA SPECTACULAR and appeared in feature films like MOULIN ROUGE and THE MATRIX RELOADED.
