To celebrate the 100th anniversary of Norman Lindsay’s classic storybook The Magic Pudding, Victorian Opera is bringing its adored adaptation back to the stage. The Magic Pudding – The Opera will be performed from 15 – 17 March at Arts Centre Melbourne, Playhouse before embarking on a regional Victorian tour to Bendigo and Wodonga in April.
Featuring childhood favourites Albert the Pudding, Bunyip Bluegum, Bill Barnacle, Sam Sawnoff as well as the mischievous Puddin’-thieves, this classic piece of Australian children’s literature has inspired joy and laughter for generations.
Victorian Opera’s The Magic Pudding – The Opera was adapted by prolific composer Calvin Bowman and highly regarded writer and pianist Anna Goldsworthy (Piano Lessons). Channelling the spirit and humour of Norman Lindsay’s original, Bowman and Goldsworthy lovingly bring the book to the stage in their witty, charming adaptation.
