Bad Dream - a rock opera
At the moment I am a no one. I can found pressing my face up against the glass of the great theatrical halls waiting to be let in. One day it will happen and I hope you come on the ride with me. It might be time to do something dangerous together but for now I dissapear into the mist once again !
Bad Dream – a rock opera
When heaven and hell can’t decide who is next, they send in their go-between, a soul tester if you like, to do their bidding.
What is Bad Dream ?
Bad dream is an original Australian musical creation. Bad Dream is a love story, albeit a sad one. Bad Dream is more than rock and roll, in fact there are some wonderfully soft moody tunes which actually highlight the dark. It is full of singing, dancing, drama and a few chills and spills on the way. It is a little manic and a little dangerous with a good dose of chaotic fun. There is even a little glimmer of hope at the end, not too much though, after all I couldn’t have you enjoying yourselves too much now, could I ?
Where did Bad Dream come from ?
Bad Dream came to me in the darker hours of recovery from major neck surgery in 2007. I just started to write a little story as part of the healing process and it grew from there. At the time, I was writing it for me, no-one else. It was a wickedly dark cathartic experience but as I healed the story grew into something more tangible.
So, I had the storyboard, a working title and then I filled in the blanks. As the story evolved I realised there was so much more available for me to use. The drama became a musical. The music I have chosen comes from a back catalogue of more than 30 years of wonderful works. It is a collection of instantly recognisable tunes, A-sides, B-sides, album tracks and rarities.
It is an amazingly tight adult drama which I have woven with the help of 30 years of amazing music. I guess it could be called a case of when Romeo and Juliette met the bastard nephew of Frankenfurter and The Phantom
Bad Dream – the show
In two parts, both approximately 50 minutes duration
2 male leads and 1 female lead
A cast of about 15 singing and dancing extras
One good rock show band (rocky horror type)
Minimal set design
Bad Dream – the music
I am keeping the details of the artists involved a closely guarded secret out of respect. I do however have their approval.
Bad Dream - today and tomorrow
The show is complete and script ready. The music is to the original score of the songs of the artist I have chosen. It is ready to be workshopped.
The door to Bad Dream is open !
Let me know if you feel like dancing in the dark on a stormy night !
