imageWhen drag queens Le Gateau Chocolat and Jonny Woo take to the stage there is instant electricity between performers and audience that continues throughout.
Their ability to interact with the audience, then break into singing some of the most iconic musical theatre songs of all time, never skips a beat. The UK cabaret performers know how to entertain and the show is slick, bold and very cheeky. They treat the audience to songs from “Gypsy”, “Grease”, “Annie”, “Lion King” and “The Sound of Music” and in between include enjoyable audience participation, and comic banter that rolls off the tongue with ease and aplomb.
Le Gateau Chocolat and Jonny Woo are unique performers but there isimage a chemistry between them that works brilliantly as their energy and gusto feeds off each other. Equally, their singing voices are perfectly matched to the songs they sing, though Le Gateau Chocolat’s classical training is apparent. At the beginning of the show Jonny Woo announces that every note might not be perfectly pitched, however, Le Gateau Chocolat sarcastically reminds the audience that this announcement doesn’t relate to him.
“Another Night at the Musicals” is a combination of musical theatre, vaudeville imageand sing-along moments that give the performers an excuse to change into a different, fantastic costume. Jonny Woo’s costumes are definitely the most daring and he has legs that most women would kill for.
I hope Le Gateau Chocolat and Jonny Woo keep returning to Perth Fringe to share the joy and fabulousness. “Another Night at the Musicals” was showing at the Teatro in the Woodside Pleasure Garden from 29 January to 10 February 2019.
