One of the most beloved events on the Summer social calendar, The Australian Shakespeare Company proudly brings Melbourne audiences a fresh take of the timeless classic, A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Cherished by young and old alike, this new imagining by Artistic Director Glenn Elston once again marries performance with nature in the stunning surroundings of the Royal Botanic Gardens.
Lysander loves Hermia and Hermia loves Lysander. Helena loves Demetrius and Demetrius used to love Helena but now loves Hermia. Egeus, Hermia’s father, prefers Demetrius as a suitor and enlists the aid of The Duke of Athens to enforce his wishes upon his daughter. According to the law, Hermia is given four days to choose between Demetrius, life in a nunnery, or a death sentence. Hermia chooses to escape with Lysander into the surrounding forest.
Working alongside other Melbourne independent businesses, this year audiences are now able to partake of the Gold Class Experience, which includes a reserved premium location, low rise chairs, picnic blanket, complimen-tary programme and an ice bucket with a bottle of wine or sparkling wine. Rosco’s @ Chevron, located on St Kilda Rd, will be also be on hand to deliver a variety of delicious dinners from kitchen to picnic rug nightly, exclu-sively to A Midsummer Night’s Dream audiences.
The Australian Shakespeare Company is an undisputed part of the fabric of Summer in Melbourne. A Midsum-mer Night’s Dream has now delighted tens of thousands of people, and is widely acknowledged as one of the most unique events of the season.
